Step-by-step procedures for common security incidents
Trespass / Unauthorised Entry
If someone is currently on your property without permission and you feel threatened, call 000. Otherwise, call Policelink (131 444) to report. Document the time, description of the person, and any CCTV footage.
Theft / Shoplifting
Report to Policelink (131 444) or online via the QPS website. For thefts in progress, call 000. Keep any CCTV footage and note descriptions. You'll receive a QP number for insurance claims.
Break and Enter / Burglary
If the offender may still be present, call 000 immediately. Do not enter the premises. Otherwise, call Policelink (131 444). Do not touch anything — preserve the scene for forensic examination.
Assault / Violence
Call 000 immediately if someone is injured or in danger. Seek medical attention first. Report to police as soon as possible. Document injuries with photos and note witness details.
Vandalism / Property Damage
Report to Policelink (131 444) or online. Take photos of the damage. Check CCTV footage. You'll need the QP number for insurance claims.
Suspicious Activity
If you observe suspicious behaviour, call Policelink (131 444) or Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000). Note descriptions, vehicle details, direction of travel. Do not approach or confront.
